Ryan's Smile

I met this amazing family a few weeks ago and loved photographing them! We had fun in the park getting everyone to smile including little sister Emma! Her cat toy ended up becoming my assistant, and that made her very happy! Ryan smiled a few times for Mom as she sang some of his favorite songs! This always makes me so happy to see! Mom was doing everything she could to get a little smile out of him, and she did it! What a great smile it was, too!

The family loves to take walks, go to the aquarium and the beach, and just spend time with family together. There are struggles as well as fun times! They struggle most when Ryan is hospitalized. Dad typically stays home with Chris (their oldest) and Emma while Mom stays with Ryan. It could be weeks that they are all separated. I’m sure that family time that they love is so precious to them when they can get it.

Mom explains, “Ryan has a condition called Lissencephaly which means “smooth brain.” He requires 24/7 care. He also endures many doctors appointments, surgeries, & hospitalizations. He had a life expectancy of two years and he will be 10 on June 24th. He has helped us all learn to appreciate every moment.”

When asked what it means to have portraits done of the family Mom said, “Usually it’s me taking pictures of the kids, so to have us all together means the world. To me it’s a moment where time stood still and everything was perfect.”

I absolutely love photographing and meeting families through my Portraits with a Purpose program. They are some of the most kind, happy, and truly incredible people I will ever meet.

I would like to thank the sponsor for this session, Greely Orthodontics. They love helping people achieve their best smile possible. “Our patients range in age from young children to mature adults, so it’s never too late to get a smile you’ll love. We use lower friction and pressure on your teeth and bones. This makes having aligners or braces a lot more comfortable. At Greely Orthodontics we utilize the latest in instrument cleaning and sterilization to insure safety during your visits.”

“We are honored to be able to sponsor a portrait session for a deserving family. We believe that families should celebrate their love and devotion to each other, and having a family portrait is one of the ways to do this. Our love and support go out to our sponsored family.”
